MSF20522 Certificate II in Furniture Making Pathways

This course is designed for students interested in the furniture making or related environments with a view to enter into employment in that area. The course provides broad-based underpinning skills and knowledge in a range of furniture making tasks which will enhance the students’ entry-level employment prospects for apprenticeships, traineeships or general employment in a furniture manufacturing environment or related workplace.

This course is competency based and the student’s performance is assessed against prescribed industry standards. Assessment methods may include:

DUTIES AND TASKS OF A CABINETMAKER

    • Communicate with clients to determine specific job requirements
    • Estimate job costs
    • Measure and draw layouts for manufactured furniture
    • Read and interpret work documents in order to prepare accurate cutting lists for jobs
    • Programme computer-aided design (CAD) and computer numerical control (CNC) machines
    • Fabricate custom furniture
    • Prepare and assemble cabinets for installation
    • Select and install hardware to furnishings, such as handles and hinges
    • Perform on-site repairs and adjustments of cabinets
  • Clean and maintain work areas, including machinery and tools to ensure a safe working environment.
